Great memories. My first car. My father bought it to deliver newspapers in and gave it to me when he stopped delivering. I began using it when I was 14 and had a morning paper route. On Sundays the papers were very large and just fit in the back seat. On weekdays I would take my collie dog with me and the car was so small that his head stuck out one of the rear windows and his tail out the other. Great fun in the snow and taught me a lot of life-long lessons about car control. It would literally go anywhere as long as the snow didn’t begin to pack up underneath and begin to raise the car up and lose traction. But even if that happened a couple of friends could lift it or push it out of any snowbank. What a hoot!

Iam rebuildind a 1961 4cv in Perth Western Australia and find it a very easy car to rebuild.When i got the car all i did was to steam clean the engine and connect up battery and fuel and it started first go and has done so every time i test it .Just a few loose ends on the body side to fix then it will be on the road again.All my friends want a drive in it.

I am a South African 64yrs old. When I was about 16yrs old my father had a 2 door car which I am convinced was a renault with backward opening doors. the gear lever knob and steering wheel were an ivory colour. The wet handling was horrific. The car in my mind seemed to be a lot smaller than the pic ‘s I see of the CV4. Any clues??

In 1962 took girlfriends’ 4CV into the school parking lot to cut doughnuts in the first snowfall of the year. Great fun until the left rear axle snapped! Got one cheaply from the local dealer, replaced in laying in snow drifts. Not such great fun.
Bought one myself. It easily, without snow tires, climbed a steep street in Jamestown NY that was routinely left unplowed and “abandoned” each winter. Great snow car! One night the NY freeway was closed by a snowstorm, but I got home by driving the unplowed Rt. 20 in bumper-high snow. In front of the radiator was a windowshade curtain to be rolled up and down by a slide control in the cabin to increase the engine heat. Mine was stuck open, leaving me without sufficient heat or defrost. The brake master cylinder failed just as my brother was about to drive it home as caretaker during my summer absence. It was thus left in the college parking lot, which the administration decided to pave, so father-in-law (to be) sold the 4CV. “It started right up”, he said. Sheeesh.

I´m 57, I live in Uruguay and when I was a kid my father had a 4cv Renault 1950 and now I´m restoring a 4cv Renault 1949 assembled in England.
So, as you can see I love the 4cv.
